hyderabad: congress legislature party leader y s rajasekhara reddy on tuesday complained that chief minister n chandrababu naidu was projecting the congress party's constructive criticism'' of his government as attempts to block the development programmes of the government . in an exclusive interview with the times of india on tuesday, rajasekhara reddy said naidu's claims on development were false.
available facts substantiate the congress' argument, he said. reddy remarked, let us take the issues of the hi-tec city, power projects, and industrial employment in the state, all subjects hyped by naidu. andhra pradesh which was in the third position in software exports in 1995, when naidu became the chief minister, is now in a dismal fifth position. in contrast, tamil nadu and new delhi which were ahead of andhra pradesh in software exports during the regimes of m karunanidhi and shiela dixit respectively, improved their exports without indulging in too much media hype. on the issue of reforms in the power sector, reddy said,we are not opposed to reforms as claimed by naidu.as a responsible opposition we are trying to protect the interests of the common man which are affected by the lopsided and business-house friendly policies of naidu. we cannot be silent spectators when poor farmers in the state commits suicide unable to pay the prohibitive electricity charges. if the cm calls this 'anti-reform', i cannot help it, he must be insensitive to such things. disputing the claims of high industrial employment by naidu, the congress leader said there were only 17.43 lakh employees in andhra pradesh, compared to 28.24 lakh in a smaller state like karnataka and 33.38 lakh in tamil nadu. in six years of naidu's rule, in spite of his globe-trotting on the pretext of securing foreign direct investment to andhra pradesh and organising a partnership summit, our state does not figure in the list top five states in terms of fdi in the country, reddy said. reddy further said the congress party in principle was not opposed to liberalisation and privatisation, as alleged by naidu, but the implementation should not be at the cost of the poor. reddy wanted to know how the poor would benefit if the cost of power supplied is increased abnormally? strongly refuting the claim of naidu about developing hyderabad, reddy said,it's a perfect example of naidu's pro-rich policies which are only benefiting the rich at the cost of the poor. if naidu calls the maintenance of four or five main roads as development, then what about the problems of people living in the slums, he said. the results of the forthcoming corporation elections would dispel naidu's claims about developing hyderabad, reddy predicted. rajasekhara reddy squarely blamed the chief minister for the neglect of irrigation in the state, particularly in telangana. it is a phenomenal neglect of such a crucial sector. he is accountable for this monumental blunder,he added. finally, on how naidu managed to succeed for so long, reddy said he is a good salesman of false dreams. he has managed to sell them so far, but people are not willing to buy them any longer. he is out of ideas now, and has become insecure and facing dissent within his party. he is now projecting the constructive criticism of the congress as negative to survive. dispelling claims *cong not opposed to reforms * blames cm for neglect of irrigation in state * naidu has not been able to put ap among top five states in terms of fdi
